PARTY ANIMALS!
kay...let's see...where to begin...
On Tuesday 6/18 donna and i saw Aarktica at the Knitting Factory...he was really good and had some interesting instruments, but i must say...i really wanted to hear some stuff with vocals from his latest album, '...or you could just go through your whole life and be happy anyway. Bliss Out v.18' and was left feeling a bit disappointed with the short set. On a good note though, the opening act: One Mile North, kinda stole the show...They were really great and were accompanied by an interesting and visually compelling video projection by The Chemistry Project that went along well with their drone/melody heavy music...such GREAT STUFF and i picked up a copy of their album, 'Glass Wars', more great stuff...To hear some tracks off the album please tune into donna's 'Lyrics Are Overrated' show on Sundays and Tuesdays...
then...
On Sunday 6/23, we went to Shirly Braha's (of indiepopradio.com & shirlybeans.com) 'NYC IndiePop Dance Party 2002' at Bar 13...and it was quite Hoppin'!!! We didn't do any dancing but chilled in the corner and heard Phofo (among many others) spin some SWANKY tunes!!!
then...
Welcome to Scratch Happy Land: On Sunday 6/30, we saw Bullfrog (w/Kid Koala) at Summerstage in Central Park. Soooo Freakin' Goooood!!!! (and free!). The park wasn't too packed, which was a plus and i got a good view of Kid Koala rippin' shit up...along with the rest of Bullfrog. Soooo great...if you don't have Kid Koala's album, 'Carpal Tunnel Syndrome' or BullFrog's self-titled album...where ya been???
then...
On Tuesday 7/2, we saw Ben Kweller at CenterStage in the South Street Seaport (another free show!!!). That was the second time we saw him...and much like the last time we saw him at North Six he ROCKED out...7 O's on the Sooooooo Good scale for you Mr. Kweller!!!
finally...
I'll be putting up the links page soon...which will have NY Festival links too (a la Summerstage at Central Park, CenterStage at South Street Seaport...) stuff like that... and as always...if you see something missing, lemme know!
Oh and for those that don't already know about it...Yo La Tengo is playing in the Prospect Park Bandshell in Brooklyn this Friday...and it's FREE FREE WEEEEE...
