Want some free advice? Just get them music. And throw some stuff in there for yourself, as well. And let us tell you why. It's because every year we try to plan early and be creative. We make a list of all our friends. We think, 'Oh, we'll get Amazon some really modern book shelves from West Elm.' And we think, 'Let's get MySpace a photo album from Kate's Paperie. One of those really delicate and pretty ones.' Or: 'Let's get Pitchfork monogrammed pens. That just stinks of class.' So, we get these gifts and send out these presents and we get the same response: 'Oh. Thanks so much. Really nice of you.' Nobody freaks out or anything. They think we're thoughtful but their lives are none the better for it. So this year we're sticking to what we're good at and we recommend you do the same. We're buying people CDs and LPs. Who ever loved a food processor the way they ! love Marquee Moon? What sweater ever got more use than Pinkerton? Is there any personal grooming product that can hold a candle to In The Aeroplane Over The Sea? Right? So quit trying to be clever and sensitive and do what you do best: Buy lots of music and force your own tastes onto your friends. Explain to them, in very detailed and pretentious language, why they should love The Arcade Fire. Why their lives will be better for knowing The Constantines. Trust us on this one. Stop over-thinking it and start buying some damn albums.
